the start of spring break

i had a whole post almost ready to go but i am not quite sure what happen to it so i will start a new rundown on devon's spring break so far. devon has been great. we went to the rodeo with edy and gavin last week. it was a lot of fun. devon and edy did the haunted house together. devon did several other rides. i would have taken pictures but it seems to be my luck lately that i either don't have my camera with me or the battery is dead. i rented "bee movie" which devon tried to get me to watch several times but i kept falling asleep. devon and i went to incredible pizza which is basically a supped up chuck e cheese. we played two round of golf one following the rules and another just having fun. i found it very humorous that when i was asking devon if he wanted to go to incredible pizza or the movies he responds with "actually mommy i would prefer to go to chuck e cheese" there are many times that devon has comments like this he is not shy when it comes to expressing himself at home. oh, the other quirky thing about devon lately is that he is incredible comfortable with his body. he loves to run around naked and i really do try to allow him to be his own person but there are moments when i think that i would enjoy not having a child that is so open and comfortable about his body. we are working on sight word and learning to read which has been a challenge i think more for me than him. i am not a patient person and it seems that my dear son has that same trait in him. it is not for lack of ability that he is not reading yet but it is the lack of me having the patience to teach. i like to believe that i just don't know what approach is best for him which keeps me from giving him the tools that he needs to succeed. i guess this is where the learning curve come in at.

being busy

well it has been a little bit since i posted. i lost track of this week. devon and i don't really have that exciting of a life. basketball is over and i only work one job right now but it seems that time just flys. well we went to the rodeo for the last dat of the cook off. i was excited about the chance to try all different bbq but it did not quite turn out that way. we did end up getting some bbq but it seemed that all the booths had private parties. devon and i then went to the carnival. we went in a fun house together and then devon used the rest of his tickets by himself. he ended up going in another fun house, down a slide that you use a potato sack to help increase your speed twice and he went in a haunted house (by himself). we took the metro rail home which i have to say is very cost effective. for $3 devon and i got to the rodeo and back and did not have to worry about gas consumption or parking. the other really monumental thing that is happening in our life right now is devon is really working on learning to read. i am sad to report that devon has just about as much patience as i do which is not a lot. he get a check mark for everyday that he practices his words and/or read a book. i know that it is a process and i am hoping that the check mark system helps to motivate him because after he gets so many check marks then he get a prize.
